Santiago Sole Domenech, Assistant Professor of Research in Biochemistry at Weill Cornell Medicine, recently published a paper in Cell Reports titled “Microglia degrade Alzheimer’s amyloid-beta deposits extracellularly via digestive exophagy.”

In the paper, the researchers show that microglia create acidic, extracellular compartments on Alzheimer's Aβ plaques too large to be phagocytosed and digest them extracellularly with exocytosed lysosomal enzymes by digestive exophagy.
